Hemochromatosis Information
Hemochromatosis Information
Hemochromatosis is very common
Iron Deficiency and Overload Disorders. Hemochromatosis can be defined as the abnormal accumulation of iron in parenchymal organs which mostly leads to organ toxicity. Hemochromatosis disease is the most common inherited liver disease in whites and the most common autosomal recessive genetic disorder.
Since there is no way for the body to get rid of iron (other than bleeding or shedding of skin and intestinal cells), people with hemochromatosis have to store the excess iron in cells of the liver, heart, pancreas, and other organs.
Hereditary Hemochromatosis Information
The main cause of Hemochromatosis is by Hereditary. Hemochromatosis is a disorder that interferes with iron metabolism and results in excess iron deposits throughout the body.
Hereditary hemochromatosis is an adult-onset disorder characterized by inappropriately high iron absorption resulting in progressive iron overload. The organs involved are the liver, heart, pancreas, pituitary, joints, and skin.
If Hemochromatosis disease is not treated properly with proper care and medication, it can cause some other diseases such as:
- Diabetes
- Joint pain
- Abnormal heart rhythms
- Heart failure
- Cirrhosis of the liver, liver failure, or (rarely) liver cancer
- Impotence or decreased sex drive in men; early menopause in women
Symptom of Hemochromatosis
Here are the list of Symptom of Hemochromatosis:

- Fatigue
- Lack of energy
- Weight loss
- Generalized darkening of skin color (often referred to as bronzing)
