Anise Hyssop Herb Information
Scientific Name:
Agastache foeniculum syn A. anisata, A. anethiodora, Lophanthus anisatus
Anise Hyssop perennial is native to North America which is hardy to Zone 4. It is a member of the mint family (Labitiae). Not grown enough. A lovely and fragant (entire plant smells sweetly of anise) ornamental well-suited for the back of the border.
Uses of Anise Hyssop
- Anise Hyssop Leaf tea has been used for fevers, colds, coughs, to induce sweating and to strengthen a weak heart.
- Anise Hyssop Root was used by the Chippewa in lung formulas.
- Leaves may be used fresh or dried.
- Anise Hyssop is used to replace Anise seed in a recipe: make a strong tea using 2 tsps of dried leaves in 1 C. of water; replace half of liquid in recipe with the tea.
