Sopa De Chicharo (Green Pea Soup) Recipe

Green peas are cooked, pureed and then mixed with corn to give a delightfully mild flavoured soup.

Serves 4.

Ingredients for making Sopa De Chicharo (Green Pea Soup)

2 teacups fresh green peas
1/2 onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 tablespoon plain flour (maida)
1/4 teaspoon chilli powder
1 teacup cooked sweet corn kernels, crushed
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon salt

For serving

fresh cream
chopped coriander
grated cheese
chopped parsley

Method for preparing Sopa De Chicharo (Green Pea Soup)


1. Mix the peas, onion, garlic and 4 cups of water and boil for 10 minutes until tender. Blend in a mixer and strain.

2. Heat the butter, add the flour and cook for 1 minute.

3. Add the peas mixture, chilli powder, corn and salt and cook for 2 minutes.

4. When you want to serve, add the cream, coriander, parsley and cheese.

5. Serve hot.
